RIYADH: Egypt, the world’s biggest grain importer, plans to allow the buying of wheat outside of tenders in a bid to secure supplies over fears of disruption fueled by the ongoing Ukraine war.

As the government only books cargoes through tenders, it wants to allow companies to submit offers to the Ministry of Supply, Bloomberg reported citing people familiar with the matter.

Cheap offers that are not selected through tenders will be allowed to be submitted to the Ministry of Supply for consideration.
